Mine based Mentors:
The course is designed around the participant completing a number of theory and practical mine based assessments. To coordinate this and assist the participants, the mine needs to allocate a mentor/s.
The role of mentors is to assist and direct the participant during the course. They should not answer questions directly but point the participant in the right direction.
The mentors play a major role in the course so their selection should be based on the following:
Mentors should:
- Have a sound mining knowledge base (both theory and practical).
- Have time allocated to assist the participants on a regular basis.
- Be regularly accessible to participants.
- Have commitment to the course
- Have access to the world wide web.
- Be available to attend mentor meeting/training days for approximately 1 hour at the start of the course and another mid year.
There is nothing to prohibit a mentor being a mine deputy or a retired undermanager as long as they have the skills and support to do the job.
